Trinity College Alumnus Leaves $12.3 Million To Alma Mater 68 Years After His Death

Trinity College received a $12.3 million bequest Thursday from the trust of Charles Guilford Woodward, a Hartford native who worked in the city’s insurance industry after graduating from Trinity in 1898.

“We are truly grateful for such meaningful support, which will impact members of the Trinity community for generations to come,” said Michael Casey, Trinity’s vice president for advancement.

The latest gift from Woodward comes in addition to the charitable trust he first established after his death in 1950 to provide annual scholarships to Trinity students.

With the recent death of the last of his grandnieces, the largest portion of Woodward’s remaining trust will be allocated, as he intended, to the college.
