Gloria Neal, morning drive time radio host, posted on Facebook last night that she is off the air immediately as Clear Channel is changing the format of the station. Gone, too, will be Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Norman Goldman, and Bill Press. For those of us with old time radios in old timey cars, this leaves us with no progressive radio station.

(6,960 posts)At 7:30 this morning (May 8) they are running a repeat of a Randi Rhodes show and the 760AM web site has been scrubbed of any content.
I never liked or listened to Gloria Neal ... but I did listen to Bill Press this morning (that was live) and to Ed Schultz and occasionally to Thom Hartmann.
Rather depressing for progressive radio to be gone from Denver.
I would tend to agree that Clear Channel is pulling whatever it can to swing the 2014 election in Colorado against Democrats.

Maybe we can get Voice of America to beam in some liberal radio from Mexico or maybe someone can bring radio Marti back to life to beam some in.
I think that pretty well ends liberal radio in large cities in the US except Chicago and Minneapolis, both of which are independent stations. Washington DC may have one also.

(1,314 posts)I woke up in the middle of the night to worry about this. Clear Channel IS removing all progressive voices from the air waves. What will KKZN become, though? Rush and Sean are already on 850 and Denver has a plethora of popular, long-time sports channels. The truly crazy wingnutters are on KNUS.

(6,960 posts)I just check the 760AM web site and the 'news' banner slide show had stories that all linked to the 'Daily Caller'.
Schultz was live this morning.
I'm listening to Thom right now at work. Norman Goldman confirms on Facebook that progressive radio in Denver is dead.

(234 posts)AM 760 was the only consistently progressive voice I've heard on the public airways in the last 30 years. And I have to drive 500 miles to hear another! This is a major loss. It will deprive people who don't have unlimited streaming data phones etc of critical issue knowledge and dialogue. The people who need to hear it and participate the most, will pay the biggest price for Am760's voice being silenced.
There is absolutely NO way they are going to tell me it just wasn't working out, that's just complete horse hockey. "The outlet, which has struggled to make an impact on the radio market for the better part of a decade Michael Roberts,Gloria Neal's firing marks impending death of progressive AM-760May 13 2014" was complete nonsense. Just exactly how did he decide AM760 made no impact? Many progressives and liberals listened to this station.
This is a major defeat and liberals, progressives, and everyone else who values the free flow of thought and information on politics should be mad as hornets about this.
The new format is a disserivce to the state of Colorado. Invest into spice whiskeys ok wtf? Dr. Joy who babbling about movies and bullshit. Great. Clear channel should be boycotted until they return a fair and reasonable perspective back into the public airways, their license renewal for this station should be heavily scrutinized.
