Senate Democrats' Campaign Arm Is Pressuring Consultants Not to Work With Leading Progressive Candid

Before the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee endorsed former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper in a 2020 Senate race, it pressured consultants from at least five firms not to work with a leading progressive in the race, the candidate told The Intercept.

Andrew Romanoff, who is one of more than a dozen candidates vying for Republican Sen. Cory Gardner’s seat, told The Intercept that multiple consultants turned down jobs with his campaign citing pressure from the DSCC.

1. Romanoff's past campaigns

Romanoff has always ran on a balanced budget amendment. That is certainly not Progressive, it’s regressive. Look at his campaign against Repub Coffman in 2016 for fact check.

Has he renounced this position?

2. Denver Post gives a number of progressive positions

didn't see anything about balanced budget amendment .. but I'd have to agree THAT doesn't put you in the progressive camp.
Wondering though .. the fact that people were "warning off" even before Hickenlooper got into the race .. is there more to the story here than just moderate vs progressive? Might be as simple as the DSCC seeing a candidate that has consistently lost in previous (statewide) campaigns?

that he would support a balanced budget amendment in his 2016 election challenge to Coffman in his TV ads. Hmmm. I think he should clarify.

4. I did not know this. As an economist, I can tell you that for the federal government

to enact a balanced budget amendment to the constitution would be a total disaster, because when the economy goes into recession, the government must be able to act as the spender of last resort. This has two purposes: it keeps people from starving and/or losing cars, homes, etc. And, it keeps demand for goods and services up, which keeps businesses from having to lay off even more people.

As 9news noted, seems like Romanoff planted his flag too close to Coffmann when he was running against that evil man.

I will tell you, though, that in spite of this, I'm FAR more inclined to support Romanoff over Hick in the primary to face Gardner. Hick will get it, though.
