Sheepskin oops: CMU regrets typo, offers new diplomas
Every diploma issued by Colorado Mesa University since 2012 has been conferred by the chair of the university's Coard of Trustees.
Yes, you read that right the "Coard" of Trustees.
The misspelled Board of Trustees on the bottom left corner of 9,188 diplomas is barely noticeable, and 2018 graduate Alec Williams wasn't sure if it was just elaborate typography or an actual mistake until he compared it to other letters on his diploma.
Williams received his diploma a month ago and recently had it framed. While double-checking that his name was spelled correctly, he started reading the diploma line by line, all 70 words.
"There was this moment of laughing at it and kind of being baffled by it, and the more I thought about it the more frustrated I got, because I'm sitting on $30,000 worth of debt and they can't take the time to use spellcheck," Williams said.
