Karen Bass taps Biden-Harris campaign vet for reelection fight

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is bringing on Julie Chávez Rodríguez — who managed campaigns for former

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — to lead her reelection campaign against a high-profile progressive challenger.
The move, reported first in POLITICO and confirmed on Tuesday by Bass spokesperson Alex Stack, comes as Bass prepares for a November runoff against Nithya Raman, a one-time ally whose insurgent campaign upended the mayoral race.

Bass has been beset by criticism for her handling of homelessness and the city’s 2025 wildfires. She finished first in the top-two primary this month. But despite a better-than-expected performance in that election, she is the first incumbent to face a runoff in more than two decades.

Bass adviser Doug Herman is departing the Los Angeles mayor’s reelection campaign team, according to an email reviewed by POLITICO.

My money's on raman. Not a lot though. I give her 75% confidence of winning.

I think she managed to at least be slightly more popular than bass. But we will see in November!

(This will probably be the last race we all even care about on election night of course lol)
