Two park district board seats are up for election. Here's what you need to know
Ward 2 has three potential candidates on the ballot: Lynda Deschambault, Casey Alyson Farmer, and Shane Reisman. Ward 4 has four candidates: Taryn Edwards, Luana España, Susan Gonzales, and Tim McMahon.
For Ward 2, Deschambault is a Moraga-based environmental scientist and former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency employee. Some of her priorities include increasing climate resilience, building community involvement, and developing park use guidelines. Her endorsements include the League of Conservation Voters of the East Bay, the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County, 350 Bay Area, and the Alameda County Green Party.
Farmer is a policy adviser and a parent. She is campaigning for increased access to parks and stronger climate and wildfire resilience. Farmer also says she will be a champion for the park districts workforce. Her endorsements include state Sen. Nancy Skinner, a former park district board member; the Alameda County Democratic Party; Lateefah Simon; and California Attorney General Rob Bonta. She is the only Oakland resident running.
Reisman is currently serving as the parks commissioner for the city of Lafayette, where he lives. If elected he wants to accelerate park projects, enhance access, and secure new sources of funding for the parks.
For Ward 4, Edwards is a librarian and writer living in San Leandro. She lists technology that prompts climate resilience as an interest. She is endorsed by San Leandro City Councilmember Victor Aguilar Jr.
