Planned Parenthood of Northern California faces backlash for only endorsing men in S.F. supervisor races
A constellation of San Francisco leaders is criticizing the Northern California chapter of Planned Parenthood for endorsing only male candidates for four open supervisor races.
A statement signed by over 50 prominent women, labor organizations, city leaders and candidates, most of whom are progressive, questioned the organization’s endorsement decisions in light of the presence of qualified pro-choice women running in the same races. It also called the endorsement decisions an “opaque” process that undermines the organization’s credibility.
Planned Parenthood did not immediately return a request for comment.
The Planned Parenthood of Northern California Action Fund — the reproductive justice nonprofit’s political arm — endorsed Danny Sauter for District 3 supervisor, Bilal Mahmood for District 5, Trevor Chandler for District 9 and Ernest “E.J.” Jones for District 11, according to its web site.
