S.F.'s District 7 supervisor race heats up as candidates spar over crime, homelessness
Myrna Melgar considers herself a bridge-builder on the at-times divided San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
The District 7 Supervisor who represents the citys largest supervisorial district, spanning the Inner Sunset to Ingleside argues she has brought political adversaries together, often striking compromises on housing, police reform and other divisive issues.
In an interview with the Chronicle, Melgar touted her political victories over the past four years, including legislation that garnered support from progressives and moderates like free Muni for children, a proposal to make it easier and faster to redevelop large homes into multifamily buildings and the renaming of Stow Lake.
Melgar also has authored or co-authored successful ballot initiatives, including one in 2022 that tried to reform the Department of Building Inspection Commission and one co-authored with Supervisor Hillary Ronen that created a fund to help city schools.
