California seeing a sizable influx of new residents relocating from Texas

One reason why she thinks this is happening is that people who moved to Texas for fully remote work during the pandemic are now coming back.

"You know, this strict enforcement from employers working in-office, in-person at least some of the time or full-time was a major contributor," she said.

"It's not just workers returning. It's new jobs being created in some of these burgeoning industries like AI," she said. "The Bay Area remains this epicenter of innovation when it comes to tech."

"It's very inclusive. People do think of the environment. The diversity is...I love it. I love meeting people from different backgrounds," she said. "It's not just about race and religion – it's all kinds of different people in all different aspects of life."

EDIT: Please note:

There is still an outflow, but the California-Texas migration has some back-flow lately.
I can only quote 4 paragraphs.

The other paragraphs have the statistics, but the point is that some are returning, despite the costs.
So I gave the main reasons for returning.

______
A lot of people discount the power of job creation (including here on DU)
But to many people, it’s a Big Effing Deal.
Also, I enjoy diversity!

It said people were leaving CA for TX. Oh well, there’s always a lot of shuffling going on.

3. A lot are always moving here, but some had to move back for the reasons stated in the article.

Some moved here (I'm near Austin) for reduced living expenses while they were working remotely, then got called back to the office and had to relocate again. The influx, however, is still pretty constant.

13. This article also says that more people are leaving CA for TX than vice versa:

The California exodus is a story that's been ongoing for several years. While it is slowing down, it is still happening. New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that California lost about 102,000 residents to Texas from 2021-2022. However, the numbers also show that California gained more residents from Texas than from any other state at around 42,000.

I was transferred from Houston to Phoenix in 1993. I sold the house there for $80k. According to Realtor.com, it’s now worth $160k. After 30 years! Texas is not a place to get rich quick.

10. Not sure how someone returning to CA from TX affords housing

Unless, because housing costs so much less in TX, they’ve been saving their surplus CA wages.

Otherwise they’re going to be renters.
