ARKANSAS - After failing to get enough signatures to file, both the medical and recreational marijuana initiatives will not be on the 2014 ballot.
According to a statement released Monday, Arkansans for Compassionate Care will not submit the Arkansas Medical Cannabis Act to the the Secretary of State.
The group needed 62,507 signatures to get on the November ballot. Volunteers gathered only about 80% of the required signatures and plans to resubmit for 2016 are already in motion. The group plans to begin collecting signatures for 2016 by early September.
Arkansans for Compassionate Care made a successful push to get the initiative on the 2012 ballot. The proposal fell short of legalization by just 30,000 votes. The campaign blames lack of funding for the struggle to get on the ballot this year.
