Washington County poll watchers gear up for November Election

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — As Election Day approaches, preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and fair voting process. While most are familiar with poll workers, the role of poll watchers is also important to maintain election integrity.

“We want to make sure that every vote counts. Every person is treated with dignity and respect, and everything goes according to plan,” said Margaret Jacobsen, a poll watcher with the Washington County Democratic Party.

Poll watchers are volunteers with a party or ballot issue who observe the election process, ensuring that everything at the voting site is conducted according to the rules.

“They only observe. They do not participate in any way. They're looking for things that aren't going just right," Jacobsen said. “The only thing I observed was one person wearing a candidate shirt, and all I did for that was ask one of the poll workers to speak to the person, and they did.”
