Taylor Swift's endorsement of Harris-Walz ticket motivates young Arkansas voters
Moments after the conclusion of the highly anticipated presidential debate Tuesday night between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, international pop star and self-described "childless cat lady" Taylor Swift made waves with a several paragraphs long endorsement of Harris and her running mate Tim Walz in a post on Instagram. And politically active young Arkansans -- including self-described "Swifties" -- have taken notice.

"Right now, (Swift's) impact is as big as it's ever been in my opinion," said Aliah Rowe, vice president of the Young Democrats at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's William H. Bowen School of Law and self-described "Swiftie." "And also ... Harris could be potentially the first woman president -- Black woman president, specifically. And so, I think it's a big deal when we see female pop stars or female celebrities coming out in support of another woman in a different field."
Author Viktoria Capek, 28, of Little Rock, who just announced the release of her upcoming book, "Dear Reader: An Immersive Literary Journey Through Taylor Swift's Lyrics," was with her partner, Whitney Butler, and best friend, MK Rockett, when she first learned of Swift's statement.
"Whitney ... just said, 'Taylor Swift posted. She made a statement,'" Capek recounted in a telephone interview on Wednesday. "MK and I immediately sat on the floor and Whitney read out the Instagram post to us."
