Down Ballot races: Corporation Commission

Democrats:

Anna Tovar - mayor of Tolleson, former teacher
"It's why I am now running for the Arizona Corporation Commission. I believe that far too often, many of the Corporation Commissioners have forgotten about the very people they were elected to serve: the consumers of Arizona. I want to expand renewable energy, create new jobs across our state, and restore transparency and integrity to the Corporation Commission."

William Mundell - served on the Commission before as a Republican
Mundell voted for the renewable-energy standard in 2006 and advocates for additional requirements for utilities to use renewables, and has voiced concern over the relationship between regulated utilities and the regulators, making that a central issue of his campaigns.

Shea Stanfield - former teacher
"Arizona's requirement for 15% [renewable-energy standard] by 2025 was not sufficient 12 years ago, when it was adopted. But, it was the best that could be done at the time considering the make up of the Commission," Stanfield said. "Today, the 'requirement' is irresponsible, inadequate and negligent."

Republicans:
Márquez Peterson former director of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce until 2018, appointed to the commission in 2019. She supports a transition to 100% carbon-free energy by 2050, which includes renewables and nuclear energy. As the only candidate from outside the metro Phoenix area, she says her Tucson perspective is important on the statewide body.

Eric Sloan
He....held a job at the state Gaming Department for about six months before being fired in 2016. He claims the termination was politically motivated and that he did nothing wrong. A state investigation found that he had harassed other workers at the department. Sloan says he wants to increase consumer protections, and has spoken against renewable-energy mandates, which he says are not the duties of commissioners.
