Pima County Fair creates online auction to help 4-H students

4-H selling their steers online

Pima County Fair canceled due to coronavirus concerns, so the 4-H students are selling their steers online.

4-H is a program that has students raising animals, like steer, to teach them responsibility. Then, they get the animal ready to be sold in an auction at the fair.

Each student spends about 5,000 dollars on buying and raising the steer over a span on 11 months.

"it makes me really proud of myself to know how much hard work I’ve put into each of these animals," 4-H student Annie Stephens said.

kids doing a raffle instead, potential for better $.

so far the Willcox sale is running but they are only letting buyers in, no families or other "audience" (and of course they take on line bids). we will work and ship some this weekend, will see how that goes next Thursday. supposed to be a $5 premium added by some company to try and keep things going, but ag is considered an essential activity/business (duh) so not sure how bad we are getting hit compared to the rest of the economy. so far sale reports look same as "normal."

busy but such a great time of year. of course we don't exactly run a tight ship here, so it goes until summer and even some fall calves happen since we don't pull the bulls off.
