'Judge Wake ... thinks he's God': Why did Gov. Doug Ducey lash out after Prop. 123 ruling?

Speaking to reporters outside the Arizona Capitol Tuesday evening, Gov. Doug Ducey unleashed a diatribe against the federal judge who'd ruled against him the day before.

Reaffirming an earlier decision, U.S. District Court Judge Neil Wake declared the state had acted illegally when it implemented Proposition 123 — Ducey's signature education-funding program — without approval from Congress.

"Judge (Neil) Wake puts on a robe in the morning and thinks he's God, but he's not," Ducey said. "I want to tell you what everyone down at the courthouse needs to know: It's time for Judge Wake to retire.

"He's an embarrassment to the legal community," the governor continued. "This is an activist judge who solicited this lawsuit because he didn't like Proposition 123."
