Kelli Ward is taken to the woodshed by a most unlikely critic

Ward’s hometown newspaper, Lake Havasu’s conservative News-Herald, delivered a blistering (but accurate) critique of Ward’s first nine months leading the party.

“It seems that Arizona’s Republican leadership is determined to see the state turn blue in 2020,” began the newspaper's Sunday editorial.

No doubt, Ward’s mini-Trump routine delights the hard right that adores her. But as her hometown newspaper has figured out, it’s a turnoff to, well, everybody else.

When Ward announced she was running for state Republican Party chairwoman late last year, she proclaimed herself a unifying figure who would bring together the party and “usher in an overwhelming 2020.”

Well, the unifier recently forced GOP Sen. Martha McSally into damage control mode, where she disavowed Ward’s comments about stopping Democrat Mark Kelly “dead in his tracks.”
