Phoenix high school student arrested in threat against mosque
A 15-year-old boy was arrested after another boy reported him saying he wanted to "blow up a Muslim church," Phoenix police said Tuesday.
The witness reported the incident Monday evening but told police he did not observe any weapons or devices on the teen that would allow him to act upon the threat, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.
The two boys were attending school at Pinnacle High School in north Phoenix on Tuesday when the witness saw a plastic bag with several pounds of a "white powdery substance" in the boy's possession, Thompson said.
The witness reported it to school officials, who called the 15-year-old into the school administration building and notified police, Thompson said.
The powdery substance was tested and determined to be several pounds of the salt-like substance potassium nitrate, Thompson said.
