Arizona secretary of state: Adrian Fontes maintains lead over Mark Finchem in latest results
Democrat Adrian Fontes continues to hold his lead over Republican Mark Finchem in the secretary of state race, according to updated tallies posted Wednesday evening.
Fontes is buoyed by leads in the state's two largest counties, Maricopa and Pima. Meanwhile, Finchem saw no gain in his efforts to catch Fontes. He is not benefiting as much as his fellow statewide Republicans from ballots cast in person at the polls.
Full election results may not be available for several days as early ballots that were dropped off at the polls Tuesday are tabulated, along with provisional ballots.
Fontes jumped to an early and substantial lead as the first results were posted Tuesday evening, reflecting the Democrats' strong showing in mail-in voting. But Election Day voters narrowed that advantage.
