(96,372 posts)What is it?

(153,491 posts)It's an earring. The stone is apatite in a hexagonal shape in a gold setting. I haven't looked up just what sort of stone this is, but I think it's beautiful.

(96,372 posts)I like the blue shade, it's kind of tourquois-ey with a kind of sapphire blue touch. The gold setting is nice, I like unique settings of that kind... there's nothing else like it!

(153,491 posts)The colors really drew me in.
The gold setting sets it off!
Thanks!

(36,583 posts)I love interesting gems and minerals. What a beautiful blue.i remember many years ago visiting the Smithsonian Institute and loving the rocks and minerals on display. I could have spent the whole day in that section!

(153,491 posts)When I first saw the stone in an ad, I was totally captivated by the colors! I knew I had to buy it, and I only hoped that the colors were half as good as the photo!
They were identical.
Sounds like your day at the Smithsonian was a hit! Hope you can get back there someday.

(153,491 posts)I apologize for my late reply; I had a very busy afternoon that took me away!
And thank you for the link! I did look it up briefly but it was so technical that I couldn't really get it. I'm sure your link will be much more readable.

Your blue apatite is gorgeous. I have a yellow cat's-eye apatite gemstone.
Nice photo, Peggy!

(153,491 posts)I'm thrilled that you like my photo too.
You could photograph your yellow cat's-eye apatite gemstone, if you wanted. I'd love to see it!
