(33,643 posts)I absolutely love GGP
I'll be there 6/11/22 weekend myself, taking my new special lady to see it for her first time.
Thanks for the pics Peg!

(156,619 posts)I hope you and your new special lady have a great time! I hope the weather is as good for you as it was for us.
And you know how I am about sharing.

(127,344 posts)When somebody mentions Japanese gardens, I think of the sunken botanical gardens in San Antonio instead. However, I'm not that familiar with Fort Worth so I realize that I might be missing out.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)I'd say you might just be missing out! It's quite lovely.

(4,691 posts)They are beautiful pictures. The Arboretum and Japanese garden are magical. Thank you, Peggy for sharing them with DU.

(40,575 posts)And how nice to see you too, CaliforniaPeggy! I love the yellow irises bent in the wind.
Your colorful photos are such an upper for me. Today in NE Ohio we had rain/sleet/snow all day long. Its nice to know its beautiful SOMEWHERE!

(156,619 posts)I am sorry about your lousy weather. Hopefully it will soon be spring!

It's been a while since I've been there, I believe it was before our previous Mayor Betsy price decided it would no longer be free to go to. It's such a shame not all people can go and enjoy the park.
I found out one of my friends works at the FWBG. He loves it there.

(23,694 posts)the general admission to the Botanic Garden itself just came about last year.
Tickets to the Japanese Spring Garden Festival are included in the Garden admission.. I could not find out if general park admission always includes the Japanese Garden .
At one time one could visit the Japanese garden without going through the main garden. I do not know if that is still available. There used to be a separate parking area in that end of the park
I thought there were going to be some discount days but did not see any info about that. Maybe after school is out.
MagickMuffin
(18,318 posts)Betsy Price is responsible for the admission just to access the whole gardens.
$12.00 per person which would be $24 for a couple to visit. I don't have those kind of resources to ever visit again. And I'm certain there are more people like me who can't afford to visit our lovely Botanical Gardens. It should have remained FREE for everyone to visit and enjoy!

(23,694 posts)There is a huge school of colorful koi in the garden and they will head for the shoreline if a shadow passes over the water!
I have had them take koi kibble from my fingers
The Arboretum is also lovely.
Looks like you did a big cross-town trip today!!
Are you by any chance planning to visit the Fort Worth Zoo? We have a new baby elephant named Brazos, and a beautiful new African Savannah for the elephants, rhinos, giraffes https://www.fortworthzoo.org/brazos#dismiss

(156,619 posts)We might have time for the Zoo. Depends on how much energy I have.
Thanks for the link!

(156,619 posts)Andy's been giving me long-distance photo lessons on the Olympus camera I own. I thought it would be cool to have some in-person lessons.
Also, we plan on attending the 2024 solar eclipse which crosses DFW. So this visit is a dry run to see where there might be good sites to see it from.
Glad you enjoyed the photos!

(56,829 posts)I was checking sites in Mexico for the eclipse a while back. thanks for the reminder.

(156,619 posts)I have concerns about safety in Mexico, which is why I decided that Texas would be fine.

(10,176 posts)...did andy take you to the dallas world aquarium (i think that's what it's called)....it's not really an aquarium anymore, but rather a large rain forest exhibit that you walk thru, with some aquarium exhibits in the lower level. there are toucans, sloths, monkeys, iguanas, etc all over the place in there.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)We haven't seen that exhibit, and now we probably won't. It's quite a long drive from here.
It is a shame. We've done a lot of touring and now we're short on time and energy!
