From 1935 until the mid-1940s, Goodman led one of the most popular swing big bands in the U.S. His concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC on Jan. 16, 1938, is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history: jazz's 'coming out' party to the world of 'respectable' music."

9. That's a lot of service, very special. Dad was Army WW2, younger bro. Coast Guard. Dad was an artillery Lieut.

Mom joined him in NC for training and the Southwest - TX, NM which she liked. Then he was off to the Rhineland, 7th Army and the Occupation around Munich, Bavaria. Among the few mementos we have is an SS patch he obtained.

Mom told us about dancing to Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller, great times!

10. Our parents had similar stories . Mom packed parachutes at an Air Force base. Dad was in the Army in the Pacific.

The music from that period is awesome.
