(989 posts)I love string quartets in an intimate setting.
My first in-person string quartet was at a free concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, decades ago.
Shostakovich, about a 90 minute concert performed by four women, whom I believe were described as student assistants from Julliard.
I went to an evening performance along with hundreds of others and I loved it so much that when I noticed
an encore performance at noon the next day, I went, by myself.
I was the only person who showed up. I sat down in the center of the front row, about 10 feet from the performers.
They performed the entire program just for me, but this time, up close, I felt the full emotional intensity. I saw the expressions on their faces and the movement of their bodies.
I felt like I was the most fortunate person in the world.

Can you picture if 'they' felt something different playing for 'one'?
Oh my lucky stars!

(989 posts)I probably would do that today, in a similar situation.
I don't know how they felt, but they certainly put everything into the performance. That concert transformed my view of what music could be.
