2025 Robert Osborne Award Recipient and First TCM Festival Tribute Announced (TCM press release issued 1/27/25)
The 16th annual TCM Classic Film Festival is pleased to announce the 2025 Robert Osborne Award will be presented to writer, director, producer, playwright and author George Stevens, Jr. in recognition of his artistic excellence, his dedication to creating new generations of American filmmakers, his visionary leadership in preserving American film history, and for tirelessly championing American filmmaking as a culturally significant and unique art form.
Turner Classic Movies pays tribute to our late host, Robert Osborne, with the Robert Osborne Award, presented annually at the TCM Classic Film Festival to an individual whose work has helped preserve the cultural heritage of classic film for future generations. Past recipients of the Robert Osborne Award include Martin Scorsese, Kevin Brownlow, Leonard Maltin, Donald Bogle and Jeanine Basinger.
As part of this celebration, the Festival will present a screening of Stevens 1984 documentary GEORGE STEVENS: A FILMMAKERS JOURNEY about his father, the award-winning director George Stevens, and a US premiere restoration of the wartime comedy THE TALK OF THE TOWN (1942).
Were also thrilled to share that one of our 2025 Festival Tributes will recognize the six-decade film career of groundbreaking director Michael Schultz. Schultz will present two of his films: the comedy CAR WASH (1976) and the genre-bending martial arts film THE LAST DRAGON (1985).
In addition to appearing at presentations of their films, Stevens and Schultz will each participate in an hour-long individual conversation in Club TCM, the passholder exclusive hub of the TCM Classic Film Festival in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
