Finally got to Blick's and picked up some supplies. Here's my first attempt--just a couple of flower sketches. I think I'm going to enjoy exploring this medium!

(120,883 posts)it's usually better to do the painting first and let it dry, then use ink. If you ink first and then paint, you run the risk of the ink running into the paint - it's likely to be a cleaner result if you ink over dry paint. I didn't see it in your painting but it can happen. Also, check out some youtube tutorials about how to stretch your paper so it doesn't warp or wrinkle, especially if you use wet washes.
Have fun with it. I prefer oils because you can fix mistakes, which I make a lot of (and oils to acrylics as well, which are too flat for my liking and you can't use glazes), but I've done some water colors that didn't suck too much.

(24,013 posts)Where the artist did the ink first, so I decided to try that first. I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of experimenting before I'm through. You're right about fixing mistakes. You really have to have a picture of the finished painting in mind before you start. You can fix just about any mistake with acrylics.
BTW, your watercolors are amazing! Very inspiring!

You're right. I must be confusing your work with someone else. Not that your work isn't excellent!
