but opposite direction, and in winter. Still a little shiny from wet paint.

(2,315 posts)becoming quite fond of an alley somewhere I have never been!
Your paintings are beautiful. This view is quite different in feel and radiates the cold very well. Brrrrrr.

(120,830 posts)He gave me the idea of painting alleys. This one, from his collection, shows the same garages from the opposite direction, as seen from behind his house. In my painting, the garage on the right is my garage, and the one on the left is the one on the right in John's painting.

(1,216 posts)I just love these. You can hear them, they are quiet. The sky color adds something special too. Beautiful color.

(53,410 posts)I particularly like the road which looks like its related by driving the cars on it. It has that muddy look of snow crushed by the wheels of the cars and lit by the glow of street lights and porch lights of the houses. Warm beacons so drivers can find their way to their respective garages. The road to home for drivers.
The color of the sky is so warm it makes the painting inviting. Ive seen winter nights like that, which glow and make you think of a soft mantle that might be the origin of that glow or the reflected warmth of city lights. The back alley is also man made and homey. The viewers perspective makes me think someone who knows that spot and has an attachment to it as a welcoming beacon painted it. Its a different perspective on a subject that is usually scary in some way. This alley is familiar and has warmth. Welcoming warmth maybe?

(120,830 posts)I actually do know that spot very well; it's right behind my house. The bit of garage immediately on the right is my garage.

(53,410 posts)As befits alleys that run behind houses. I like your details like the car tracks and the warm glow of the sky and the lit lamps. Even conveniently utilitarian areas have their seasonal appeal and distinct beauty.
