This was a full page advertisement for the game. The skulls depict the different ways you can die in horrible ways. The skulls were all life size and the art director simply told me what the cause of deaths were and I came up with how to depict them. The photographer shot the skulls lined up and cut off the 4 outside skulls so it would look like there could be more skulls.
The upper left skull is titled Scorched by a dragon blasting it with its fire breath.
The upper right is named Scalped and looks like someone sliced through half the upper skull.
The lower left is named Shafted, thus the arrows sticking out of it.
The lower right one is named Spored and looked like a really bad case of pustules (like bad acne) covering it. I picked large rose thorns and stuck them into the pustules to make them look like spores.
The second shot is of my favorite skull depicting drowning. I was really proud of it. I was happy with the ideas I came up with because in quite a few of them the manner of deaths was a little difficult to translate on skulls. Deaths like Scalped on a skull with no hair, or of drowning, or spored. This job was a lot of fun for all the kids in the neighborhood because I sculpted them at my kitchen table and they were all laying on it. Its was quite a macabre sight! They all decided I was a cool mom.

Torture is not being able to reach that one spot with a pencil or other thin long object. I broke my collarbone wrestling my brother. It was all part of my life.
I remember it fondly.

He hopes to go into movie or theatrical costumes.

(53,410 posts)They were not made to last though they would have if I took care of them.
I used Sculpey which is a pliable polymer material like plasticine that can be kneaded and shaped. When I had the shape I wanted I baked them in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. The sculpey gets hard when its baked. I have a few serious sculptures that Ive kept for years. What I do is use something like aluminum foil packed tightly into a ball and put the sculpey over it.

(53,410 posts)My son and his friends were around 12 years old and loved video games. We were one of the first families to get video games because I preferred for my son and his friends to be having fun at home rather than in the malls getting in trouble. Our house was a destination for them. I could keep an eye on them while being pretty invisible. You can imagine the impact this project had on his friends.

(12,618 posts)I totally loved it! My friends and I used to laugh our asses off at all the gruesome death scenes in it, which was unusual at the time. In fact, I think it was the first time I remember seeing real gore in a video game. As a lifelong lover of horror films and books, even then, The Immortal was something truly special and groundbreaking to play. Especially in the 16 bit Genesis/Super Nintendo era.
I was never able to beat it when I was a kid. Too hard. So about eight years ago I played it again on an emulator, and cheated using an online walkthrough that I found. Great game!
Truly awesome that you were a part of creating it! Thanks for all the macabre laughter you gave me and my friends!

Thanks for the compliment! Im glad youre not disappointed that someone like your mom created the artwork.
