It’s such an efficient way to get around because of the “spider web” design. The metro in the DC area wasn’t like that - you couldn’t interconnect from one lone to another.

The first time I was i Paris, I was especially intrigued by the metro stops that had the maps that would light up to show you the route you needed.

...underground, and the escalators seem to descend forever.

The Moscow Metro is amazing. Many of the stations/stops are breathtakingly beautiful - like being in a museum or art gallery. Stained glass, sculptures, mosaics, paintings, and chandeliers. Here is a linK to a video tour:



In Chicago, it's called the Metra, which never sounds right to me. Needs to end with an "o."
