Here is a large painting I did of a ballerina. My ex was a stagehand in the San Francisco Opera House so I knew a few of the women in the San Francisco Ballet who danced there during the ballet season. I sometimes would watch them rehearse, which inspired this painting. Its 60 x 36

(53,410 posts)You know how in ballet movement often starts from a short static pose and ends in another still pose for a few seconds? I wanted to catch the body moving from one pose to another, where it seem to defy gravity and the dancer is moving her limbs in wide arcs and sweeping movement.

(18,608 posts)I love the composition. I love the frozen moment of movement ( I know that doesnt really make sense, but hopefully you know what I mean). I love the colors, particularly the blues on the dancer.
Wow. I bet it is impressive to see the large canvas in person.
Edited: forgot to mention the graceful fingers!

(53,410 posts)That was what I was aiming for. If you look at my response to the first post you can see that I was trying to capture that. It makes me feel validated to know that the exact thing I was trying to capture is what the viewers get. Thanks!

(22,889 posts)There's a beautiful athleticism in the dancer's pose and the color is effectively emotional. Further, the expression on the dancer's face is passionate.
I occasionally play piano for a ballet school in NYC and appreciate what you've captured. It's a beautiful painting.
