Happy Thursday! Here's an oil painting on masonite board, 8'5" x 11", still not completed, of my daughter Tessa when she was about 10 years old (she's in her 30's now), I have it in my studio ready to finish, along with all of the other uncompleted art - I think I do it so I can keep them. Anyway, I'll finish her soon as I have all of my oil paints out now. My studio is a big, organized mess!

1. Beautiful. You have mastered the human body.

Did you take anatomy lessons or did you teach yourself from books and models? Did your daughter model for you on this one? I really enjoy seeing your work.

2. Oh thank you so much!

I'm self taught. Started as soon as I could hold a pencil. We always had National Geographics and magazines, so I'd draw from those. We also had an anatomy book, so I studied that as a wee girl. My grandson Pacha can sculpt the bones and the organs, and surprised me with a little 1" man we opened with a tool and he had all of the organs inside! I get them modeling clay, non toxic. He also works in Aves, and sculpts and draws.

I did take Life Drawing and Painting while 18 in college, which was really fun and made me work larger.

My daughter modeled for me, yes. I took the photo, but never finished the painting, as I went through some stuff at that time. So I'll finish her maybe this year.

My favorite book that teaches anatomy for artists is Bruno Lucchesi's 'A Sculptor's Guide to Anatomy' ISBN#0-8230-3096-2. It's fantastic. He sculpts the skeleton, then the muscles and ligaments, and completes the entire sculpture. There are many sculptures in this book.

It's my second copy as I gave the first away to my son in law. He's really talented.

Both of my grandsons do art every single time they have days with me. Thiago is starting to play with clay. He turns 3 this August. He draws all of the time, and loves to make happy faces! So they are already little artists! It's the best, but I get completely exhausted with both of them lol.
