Related: About this forumA couple quick pencil sketches
These I did sitting outside with a sketch pad and pencils sitting on a log on the shore up at Kinzua in NW Pennsylvania
They are a couple years old
. I finally found them after looking through some old stuff. 🙂

(6,451 posts)I am rowing through that gap in the hills. I am wading in the water and pulling my boat up onto the shore. But I am here 800 miles away in my living room and there at the same time and seeing there through someone elses eyes.

(3,457 posts)..and the distance of the mountains beyond as if to say yesterday is past ..all the trials and tribulations..as if to say, see here--mida, there is...paz if only for a moment.
Im such in a melancholy state of mind this morning...had a bad day yesterday...not sure if I want to get up and face the day, pero my little dog is urging me to take him outside. Your post reminded me of the new water color set, new field sketch book I purchased 2 weeks ago..still sitting on my kitchen table.
Change in scenery, I had been working with pastels and acrylic..or just sketching was on a seascape mode..I call it oceans in the desert eg ocean waves, palm trees, sail boats in the distance...then, all of a sudden-- nada, the flow of creativity just stop as if someone plugged, shut off the spigot. Before that birds big and small, garden flowers.
So, I'm thinking perhaps a change of scenery will quench this thirst I'm experiencing..can load up my small truck with art things, Chico ( small dog who really hates going anywhere since he thinks I'm taking him to vet or groomer but can't leave him home ] If I drive say 90 min north will be in mtns ..lake, streams Aspen..drive through pueblo, historic Spanish mission, cliff dwellings, hot springs lots of things to see draw, do...maybe hike up to waterfall..now that fire restrictions have been lifted in NM can finally get out and enjoy nature.
Thank you for sketches you so generously shared--can picture myself there..love how the sunlight hits the trees--how the water is quiet, just a day at the lake..seashore-- nice, serene.
Buen dia y paz.

(34,613 posts)I, too, fight with myself to just start something. I find that just getting started is the hardest part!
Sometimes Ill tell myself, all Im going to do is clean up my little corner of the basement where I work, and then as I organize all my pencils, paints, and brushes from the last time I left everything all a mess, then the urge to create something will take over.
Even if you just go for a drive with your dogs and dont put any pressure on yourself to draw, sometimes just getting out and seeing something beautiful will get the old creativity flowing. I hope you get a chance to do that today or sometime soon. Im very much a procrastinator so I know what youre going through.
Heres hoping for a better day! Id love to see you post anything you come up with!

(53,410 posts)Quite compelling to look at! Who doesnt love good nature artwork? It makes you feel peaceful and makes you yearn for the location.
The only thing I would suggest is to get a light source such as sunlight by going over the shadows again to emphasize the darker areas in the woods. Dont be afraid to use more dark colors, like you did with the rocks in the foreground which are very well done!
And if youre in an explorative mood maybe you can use a pen and ink to create more crispness and detail.
I like these very much! I would frame and hang them on my walls!

(34,613 posts)I wasnt really trying to create finished artwork here, they are just sketches. I was thinking myself that they needed some more dark definition in some areas. Maybe will try to go over them next time Im at my table. Thank you for your comments!

(53,410 posts)I consider all artwork as important in its own right. And I love sketches and drawings because they have their own importance, separate from all other kinds of art, so I truly enjoy seeing them. I know not everyone feels the same way, but I cant figure out why.
