Nashua Last week the Board of Education met and in a surprising move, voted to cancel the contract with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the union that represents over 100 custodians throughout the Nashua School District, once the current contract runs out in June.
The Board made this spur of the moment decision without any input from the public. Not all of members of the Board were present at the meeting where the decision was taken.
Deb Howes, Chairwoman of the Nashua Labor Coalition, a group of comprised of local union members and community activists, who all live or work in Nashua, released the following statement:
I was shocked to hear the news that the Board of Education voted end the contract without any notice to the union, and without any notice to the people of Nashua who send their children to these schools.
