Greece forms a Commission to audit public debt
The establishment of the Public Debt Audit Commission has been announced by the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Zoi Konstantopoulou, in a press conference together with SYRIZA MEP Sofia Sakorafa and the Belgian economist Éric Toussaint.
Ms. Sakorafa will be responsible for the communication of the operation abroad, while Mr. Toussaint will take over the scientific part of the process, being considered an expert on audit debts of other countries. Among other things, parts of the Greek debt associated with the organization of the 2004 Olympic Games will be examined, as well as those connected with armament projects and the Siemens scandal.
The goal of the Commission will be to uncover the truth about the responsibility of the policies and acts or omissions that ejected Greece's debt. The first official meeting of the Commission is set for early April while in June, the first results obtained, will be presented at the International Congress on the debt.
