To those Republicans demanding an apology after the senseless and horrifying shooting in Virginia, here you go:
1. I'm sorry that your mindless support of the NRA and its goal to put a gun in the hands of every American has, no pun intended, backfired. I'm sorry that someone exercised their "second amendment remedies" against you, which must come as a surprise given your advocacy that it be used exclusively against Democrats and progressives. I'm sorry that because of you, a person with a history of domestic violence and/or mental illness is not restricted from owning a gun.
2. I'm sorry that your callous disrespect for the last duly elected President, who won both the popular and electoral votes, has been turned against your man. That, while still far short of screaming "you lie" at a Presidential address before a joint session of Congress, you feel as though your man is on the receiving end of scorn and ridicule. That you denigrated the office of the President, forgetting that at some point you might occupy said office. The proverbial chickens have come home to roost.
3. I'm sorry that you have been so successful in destroying public trust in the government and its relevance in the lives of ordinary Americans that people feel like violence is the only way to have their voice heard.
4. I'm sorry that you have supported a man that pressed hard for a healthcare plan that is, in his own words, "mean" and "hurtful," and which will deny healthcare to millions of hard-working Americans.
5. I'm sorry that you turned a blind eye, knowing all that you knew, to the fact that you were consciously electing a perjurer, thief, compulsive liar, and an admitted sexual abuser. A failed businessman who has sold you the most vile jar of "nothing" imaginable.
6. I'm sorry that you have reset your moral compass to align with a man who has no moral fiber in his being. Who has demonstrated that he has no commitment to the institution of marriage, which you superficially value so much you would deny its benefit to people whose lifestyle brings you discomfort.
7. I'm sorry your party did not have the political backbone to stand up to a self-serving narcissist whose primary goal is clearly to benefit himself and his family, at the expense of the American people.
So there is your apology. Choke on it.

(4,260 posts)These are people who have systematically been denied an education to obtain a skilled job; who have been denied a wage that can support three dependents; who have been denied healthcare by counter productive application forms, rules, resource restrictions and prejudice; people who through corporate greed have lost their job so a billionaire can make more money.

(4,096 posts)when I said "needy" I meant people NEED healthcare. Apologies!

(4,260 posts)I apologize for coming across to strong. It's just that the Republicans equate needy with lazy or takers. DU should not be part of that. Just my opinion.

(1,201 posts)won't have to pay 23.9% with that last 3.9% used to cover health care subsidies and Medicaid expansion. Let 'em die. Means even lower tax rates for these greedy bastards. Sorry we asked you to pay your fair share.

Sure sums up how I feel! Particularly since a close friend confirmed my worst fears - AND THEN SOME, last night. I suspected their vote was for trump, just because of being a longtime Republican. A Republican, not a republi-CON. Our conversations were always fairly neutral till the truth came out in a conversation last night.
And it wasn't just voting for trump. What tipped the scales in his favor, "all other things being equal," was Mike Pence!!! The Supreme Court and Mike Pence!!! "Because he was the only one on either ticket with actual governing experience"!!!! My friend had evidently decided to forget the years of service Tim Kaine put in as Governor of Virginia, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, and Mayor of Richmond VA, plus running the DNC for several years.
This stabbed me right in the heart. I didn't sleep last night because of it. Tossed 'n' turned. Too upset. God, I remember when Tim Kaine was introduced as Hillary's running mate. The speech he made. My friend and I were both watching it on TV, several states away from each other. We were texting back and forth (as fellow Catholic school alums) about what an impressive debut, how terrific he was, look, he's bilingual! Look! Educated by the Jesuits (always an immediate gold star in my book)! I thought my friend was sincere! Until last night when the admission came that "and of course Tim Kaine couldn't govern his way out of a paper bag"!
Just gotta get that off my chest. I'm STILL upset about this.
You know how it is when you suspect something because of things you've heard a friend say that imply a certain conclusion, but you try to ignore it because it's your friend talking? Or you try to pretend that they REALLY don't mean that or REALLY didn't imply what you suspect deep-down that they DID imply? And then the proof of your suspicions just suddenly hits you across the face like a flying 2x4. DAYUM!!! It's gonna take me awhile to get over this one. It came from a longtime friend.

(23,031 posts)8. I'm sorry that you have spent decades excusing and supporting calls for violence from your supporters. I'm sorry that someone took your rhetoric about "jack booted thugs" to heart and bombed a government building in Oklahoma City. I'm sorry that your supporters have murdered doctors who helped women with the most important decision of their lives. I'm sorry a congresswoman from Arizona has to live her life with brain injuries, because a violent psychotic took your rhetoric seriously. I'm sorry that two were murdered at the Knoxville Unitarian Church because an angry man was lead to believe liberals were to blame for his failures. I'm sorry that after over 20 years of violence you have done nothing but feed the anger and hatred of your followers, and have allowed your voices in the broadcast media to continue to foment violence.

(1,779 posts)(Seem to think) that only Democrats were "fair game."
With nothing else to offer their conservative believers, Republicans offer only hate and a threat of violence. This is come back to bite them in their behinds.
If one if one stacks of the threatening language of Republicans versus Democrats, there is absolutely no comparison, no matter what the mainstream media says.
