would like for Christmas: 1. for Conservatives who really love this country to jump the Republican Party/Tea Party radicals and 2. for the NRA to become a thing of the past. Surely sensible people belonging to either group could organize something new and sane.

1. Just two things:

Everyone is conservative. Reactionaries only take the name to misrepresent themselves to respectability. And; When I was an idiot; I wanted a gun, another gun, and more guns; and I still have my guns, but I forgot my reason.

My wife and I split up. As a going away present I bought her a sweet if older five shot 38. I'd be her pit bull if I was with her. At least she has a fighting chance if some one busts in the door, which is itself unlikely if it is double locked.
My friends said: You're splitting up with your wife, and you bought her a gun? Are you crazy?. With no objective proof other wise, maybe. But she has nothing to worry about from me, and I would trust her with my life so; what's the problem? She has a CCL, and I don't need one. I don't hunt any more. I'm not scared of nothing or nobody. I'm not looking for trouble, can handle it, and I can alway run away.

I can understand it if people feel more comfortable with a gun around. They are damned dangerous unless they're kept in such a way as to make them almost useless. Whats the point?
