Department Store Day Department stores have been around for many years and have been very instrumental in how we shop today. Many department stores had lunch counters where shoppers could take a break for a drink, snack or lunch. Some of them had large clocks in their entrances with seating for customers to relax and visit with each other. Many large department stores still exist today. They make it easy for us to shop with their multiple departments that carry everything from clothing to home products and tools.

I went into mourning when Kaufmann's closed. They had the most magical Christmas windows. I recently read that some of their artifacts are going into the Heinz History Museum in Pittsburgh.
