Bought a new washer & dryer yesterday. Delivered today around noon.
The old dryer was making a screeching sound. Almost certainly a bearing.
$300 to repair, but they were 17 years old.
Best to just get new.
My wife is pleased with the choice and they are nice looking for appliances.
Now, any other gifts are mere tokens because laundry appliances aren't cheap.

1. Do they have actual knobs, prof?

My wife chose a washer/dryer set manufactured by Electrolux about a year ago. They look nice and so far they operate fine, but there's no knobs. They're all sensor-like buttons that you hold your finger on and then functions change or the appliances start/stop.

I just envision those malfunctioning in the years ahead. It's not like appliances are built to last long these days anyway.

Big dial in the middle to decide the type of wash or dry.
There are touch buttons for details like temperature or number of rinses and so on.
It does not look like the flight panel of a 767.

Washer and dryer are definitely worth it.

3. Does your new dryer sing to you when the clothes are done?

A friend and I were talking about her new dishwasher and she was thrilled that it plays music when the cycle completes.
I replied that it was a nice thing but it doesn’t quite make up for the rest of our dystopian world.

I will wait to tomorrow to hook everything up.
I figure about 15 minutes as long as the leveling goes well.
They wanted $50 per machine to "install". I'm not paying $100 to save 15 minutes! I know those 2 delivery guys weren't making $200 an hour!

11. New is great.

Aren't new appliance's great. One year I got myself a new vacuum and the guys at my old work took their jabs at me but, they did agree that it sucks when a vacuum doesn't suck.
My Wife and I bought a new washer/dryer set 2 years ago. We chose front loaders this time and I made a pedestal that is 24" tall so we didn't have to stoop down to load/unload it. There is enough space underneath it for laundry basket storage.
