Remember The Vinyl Cafe from Canadian story teller Stuart McLean?

Our local NPR station used to carry it on Saturday nights before McLean's death in 2017.

His stories were gentle with some real at home humor as he told stories of Dave, his wife Morley and children Sam and Stephanie as they lived a middle class life in Ontario I believe.

Some of his most memorable stories told tales of Christmas adventures that always got me to laughing wildly. Most stories last about 25 minutes or less and offer a chance to leave this world for a few minutes. So for the next week I will post a Vinyl Cafe story of Christmas.

Let's start with "Dave Cooks The Turkey" which seems to reappear in later tales: (22 minutes)

I hadn't heard of Stuart MacLean until after he passed. I listened to one after another for several months. I love any of the Christmas stories. Also the one about the racing bike, and the one about the casket. I think the first one I listened to was about trying to get the littler box trained cat to use the toilet. I might tune in just to start a good laugh.

Thanks!

McLean’s appearance on The Hour Has 22 Minutes, the great Canadian sketch comedy show, was one of the most hilarious things I have seen in my life. He joined in their mocking his style with mad abandon. He was great.

I always enjoy them. Never heard of Stuart McLean until someone, you perhaps, posted some of these on DU a few years back.
