“You know what… I just thought of something.”
Go off on a tangent and then circle back.
Sometimes I find the arrant thought will fall into place the moment I take the pressure off of myself to retrieve it.

I don't really refer to memory lapses as any term or phrases. Things that I say frequently as it's happening to me is the following:

"Recalculating. Recalculating. Recalculating!" (like a GPS system)

"Derp. Derp. Derp." (this can go on for several minutes to be honest)

"WELP! My OLDS TIMERS just kicked in again!" There was an email joke about OLDS TIMERS and SOME TIMERS and I don't remember how it went.

"I'M MELTING!!!" (I sound like the Wicked Witch in Wizard of Oz)

" I forgot what I was saying."

"Where was I?" "What was I talking about?" "Where was I going again?"

"Dammit, I came into this room for a reason. I forgot what that reason was!"

"Tickets! Tickets please!" (I say this in Vampire Lestat's voice, kind of like riding the crazy train)

I'm a Capricorn. I don't follow. I just do my own thing. Thank you.

God this post and replies does me so much good. I have been so stressed this past year with all my brain glitches. It's just not forgetting what I was talking about, or not being able to pull up the name of a person I've known for years, or getting into the car to go someplace and forgetting how to get there. Seriously it's happened a half a dozen times to me when I'm going some place I've gone a 100 times and I have to stop and think how I get there.

My friends and family (those in my age group) tell me don't worry it happens to them too. And yet I can't recall ever seeing it happen to them.

I do see a therapist and she told me the less you use your brain cells the more you lose them. Right now I'm doing memory /brain games to try to at least slow the process down. I try to stay active and involved.
It probably isn't going to get better, just hope it doesn't get worse.

A neuroscientist friend of mine recommends taking B12 (helps neural activity), Omega 3 fatty acids (protects myelin sheath), D3, and CoQ10.

Being a vegetarian, I have to be vigilant about taking these, and I can tell the difference if I've missed.

I go downstairs to get something.
I get something.
I go back upstairs.
.
I go back downstairs to get the something I wanted.
I go back upstairs.

It's my exercise program.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I spend a lot less time standing in various rooms wondering "Why did I come in here?"

Then again, I still manage to "lose" my phone at least three times a day. And don't get me started on trying to find my glasses without, well, my glasses.

Like when I walk in a room and ask of no one in particular "Why did I come in here?"

When my partner has said my name about a half-dozen times without a response I say something like: "Sorry hon. Hyperfocus is a bitch."
