The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am thinking of starting a S.O.G. research group on here seeking volunteers.
No not that S.O.G .the study and observation group that were studs in Vietnam war. This would be the study and observation group of granola cereal.
Example of the minds that Id like to have on board is our neighbors here at D.U. community is my dear friends Diamonddog Livetohike Irisblue or Lucky charms and Marble falls etc etc.
At 58 years of age Ive noticed that colon care is becoming more of priority in my life and the intake of fiber is a must. Especially after Im now only able to hit gym Sunday Monday here on east coast and Thursdays out in central California as we wait on East freight to cut to go home.
Exercise definitely cardio helps the colon train with keeping it moving on schedule. In truck I pack boiled eggs plenty of fruit and veggies also yet at times i still run into delays.
Say I pull out of Nebraska swap stop my turn to drive Ill grab an empty coffee cup that i swiped from truck stop and pour cereal usually granola with sliced banana.
Although at times Ive been known to hit the bran flakes as well with raisins plan is I let it sit in cup to get soft then drink it while i drive I mostly partake in Granola cereal.
And planning is important say day before Im drinking a cup leaving east coast so at our shower fuel point in Sidney Nebraska Ill have a huuuuge one then shower and roll.
So coming out of Nebraska Wednesday mornings having cereal planning for Thursdays morning moment at terminal out in Central Cali then hit gym shower eat breakfast and head east.
Yet Ive noticed not all granola cereals are equal as in dissolving to drink and drive breakfast. The most resilient cereal that takes forever to dissolve is a certain brand that begins with letter P Im talking at least 200 miles until its ready.

(13,688 posts)You know I should walk with my union pension and just stop driving.
Probably be easier on my colon.

(34,068 posts)The ingredients are as simple as it gets, no artificial anything. They do have to sit in the milk for a while or they are little too crunchy.

At least a part time position as I have several years behind the wheel experience and I managed to keep my girlish figure, weighing in at 104 lbs, the whole time. And I have been accused of knowing stuff about food and nutrition.
First, what's wrong with bananas in raisin bran? Last time I ate cereal I had to use yogurt 'cause I can't have milk, takes longer in the soaking process. But I digress...
The key to quick soaking cereal is to know what it's made from. Softer grains will get mushy faster than hard ones, ie... oats compared to rice. So if your granola has lots of harder grains and seeds, it will take longer to get to the texture you like. Also, if you add a little blast of hot water to the dry stuff first, if gives it a jump start on softening things up.

(22,701 posts)also I can't say enough good things about Benefiber or its generic clones. Unlike old school Metamucil it dissolves in water and leaves it clear, and you can put it in anything. It is a big help. I have suffered from IBS and it makes a huge difference
