(41,351 posts)I can talk to a person at the front door without opening it. They actually are unable to tell whether youre in the house or not.

(41,351 posts)There is a microphone in the doorbell. You access it through an app on your phone. You can be somewhere else.

(3,544 posts)Been alone more than eight years, feel more secure with the cameras. I have one mounted low to get face pictures of pirates, if they dare.

(6,337 posts)I have a $25 Wize camera magnetically mounted in the window by the door. It is inside and can see the entire front of the house and the driveway all the way to the road. I love it. I access it either online or on my phone. Everything was easy to install and I have never had an issue with the camera. (All issues are with the WIFI since you need that for the camera to be connected to anything. My camera is right at the limit of my WIFI.) It does both video and two-way audio (meaning you can talk with someone through the camera), although where I have it located it is only useful when the window is open. When it is, I can literally talk with anyone at the door, just like a Ring camera.
(I will never forget the time I was on vacation and sitting on the beach back home whilst watching the snow fall in 720P back here in Minnesota. Priceless.)
The downside is the company has been changing since I got this thing and they might be a bit 'proud' of their products now. I have not priced one in a few years. However, there are other options as well. There are very small cameras that are WIFI connectable and are about the size of two Thin Mints. (I know you can understand that size reference. ) They are also magnetic and can literally attach to your front door if it is metal, or has metal on it. They usually come with brackets for screw and clamp mounting as well.
Try some internet searches for 'small camera' or 'spy camera'. That is how I usually find those kind of things.
Addendum: Get one for your car as well. Now more than ever, it is vitally important that you follow the teacher's creed: Document, Document, Document! The ones I have mentioned are also useable in that application.

(2,488 posts)And also a camera (with a light that lights up really bright when movement is detected) over the driveway. A few years ago in our neighborhood vehicles were being broken into so we decided to get the cameras. I really like having them. Its nice to see who is at your door or in your driveway without having to answer the door or go peek out a window. Its also nice to be able to do so when you arent home. I would encourage you to get one no matter what type or brand you choose!

(2,080 posts)to watch it later. We have got some seriously scary people living around here. I've watched ones on Youtube which are pretty scary. It might keep me up at night if I saw a bunch of strange people coming to our door (and I bet there are 'cause I've seen enough of them come to the door in the day time to worry already). Even though our crime rate is still pretty low comparatively, it has still gone up a bit more and especially in this neighborhood. People shoot at each other around here fairly regularly these days (mostly at night but sometimes during the day too). Somebody left a gun in our next door neighbor's yard...
I do want detector lights in the yard though - for sure

And when they are activated by movement, you can set it so you are alerted.
