Questions about star memberships

I'm not sure whom to ask. My star membership expired quite some time ago. I went to renew it but I can't find a way to pay with a credit card. I realize it says it's available but I only get PayPal options and I don't have PayPal. Checks were another option but Dutch banks don't do checks.

My other question is I once saw a post that said DU makes more money from ads than memberships. I'm happy to stick with ads if it brings more revenue, even if I lose access during busy times.

Anyone know?

In the form of a credit card through PayPal but I think it’s odd and I lose patience with it. I end up mailing mine in, which is ridiculous.

I would donate a lot more if the transaction was less tricky.

I would just urge you to mail in a check for a star membership. The no ads is really nice, imo.

2. That's how I pay mine. I stay away from on line

purchase on line.
I canceled my Verizon account and they paid me the $5 they owed me with a prepaid Debit Card that I can load up. Thinking I can put some cash in that and use it for online purchases. It is not connected to my bank or accounts.

3. Do you object to PayPal? I've paid for my Star that way for years and find it really easy

And if ads were that lucrative, EarlG wouldn't encourage DUers to purchase Stars, plus DU is much more pleasant without ads. EarlG will likely weigh in, but I've also read here that you can send a check.

11. no you do not have to log in to pay pal

DU uses it but you can pay as a "guest" no need for a pay pal account. not sure why so many don't get this but every fund drive there are several people who can't seem to figure it out. so you are not alone.

5. When I still had my iPhone 6, without a Star membership,

the ads would overwhelm the capability of the phone to even display pages, and forget about playing any video.

On Google Chrome, putting your cursor on the tab drops an info box that also displays the amount of memory that tab uses. Comparing with Star membership to not being logged in, I found the ads cost about ten times the memory use on your device. So it's a lot easier to display pages when you're logged in and with Star Membership than without it.
