(2,414 posts)Avebury is a stone circle that is about 15 miles from Stonehenge, and is spread out over a much larger area. It doesn't function as a calendar for eclipses like Stonehenge, but they both seem to be a magnet for the crop circles that have been appearing in the nearby wheat fields over the past 30 years.
This image is from an April Fools contest run by The Guardian newspaper every year; it was submitted by the National Trust with a similar punchline, proving that some government bureaucracies can have a good sense of humor (at least British ones!).

The invented this neat thing called the calendar - a ways back I think ...
I look at the pretty pictures from time to time ... But it's never played much of a real part ....
