When I started I figured one per night would help me get through this, and tonight it was Goblet of Fire. The only unfortunate part of my plan is that the farther along I get the more stressful the movies are.
But it is not Trump.

(94,627 posts)Harry P runs 8 movies plus the 3 Fantastic Beasts. Which reminds me why the flip arent they getting on with the final two? I dont care if they have to swap out Grindlewald again.
Anyway, LOTR. I love it, with very few exceptions. Im one of those fans that waited 50 years for there to be a movie, so I watched it with a critical eye. The movies were, so to speak, love at first sight for me.
But imo they ruined The Hobbit. I recently re-read The Hobbit and was disturbed all over again by what was changed and added to the movie. Its a wonderful childrens book and can be enjoyed by the adults who read it to the kidlets, but the movie is way, way too violent for 9 year olds, much less 5 to 7 year olds.
Not Trump.

(3,521 posts)The movies kinda annoyed me, tbh.
For watching I have been spending lots of time with David Suchet as Poirot. Comfort food!

(43,047 posts)If you don't know these series (Utena and Wing), it's going to be harder to explain.

(4,850 posts)I suggest "A Discovery of Witches" based on the Deborah Harkness books. I will admit the books are better than the series, but isn't that often the case? Harkness is a history professor (UCLA maybe? somewhere here in CA), and she puts that knowledge to good use. There are vampires, too, and what she calls daemons. Her world-building is great, and she has a unique take on the occult world. I sound more like I'm praising the books over the shows, but both are great in their own ways. It's more adult than Harry Potter or LOTR, but that's actually one of its strengths. Anyhow... I liked it a lot (both forms). Maybe you will, too.

(17,377 posts)a very long wait, so we're rewatching from the start before starting the new stream. It took us awhile to binge the prior seasons when we first discovered the show, so I'm not sure how long we'll last on the old ones. It's a great show and a nice distraction for now. Although we still get plenty of election news --podcasts in the car and Morning Joe plus lots of nightly MSNBC. But we do intentionally tune out because of the Trump stupidity.
Harry Potter is a good choice! So is LOTR as another poster mentioned.

(92,776 posts)I could say it was all about Halloween, but it isn't. Some of it, yes - but the enjoyment isn't the same, so I know it's the election and the movies are more about killing time.
