I currently have a Kindle Fire. It is okay but heading towards the end of its usefull life.
Plus I don't want to support Bezos.
I have a fair number of Books purchased on the machine and would like to be able to transfer them to any new machine.
I would also like to be able to run a browser and see some videos also.
Any suggestions as to what to get.

(27 posts)I have an Samsung Tablet, I think it's an A7(?) and that is my primary reader for the last 3 years +. I have really liked it for it's size and versatility, more than just a reader.
I have the Cloud Library, Libby Library App and the Kindle App on the Samsung.
I don't purchase much off Kindle but the App works fine. I really love using my local library and getting books through the Cloud Library and Libby.

(159,240 posts)I have always preferred paper books (OMG I worked in IT for 43 years, fed up with screens).....when I voted last week at a library I hit their book sale so I'll just keep reading real books.

(408 posts)My sister and my son both use the Nook, and like it.
I, over the last 14 years, personally have owned a Fire (trash), and 4 Kindles. I broke two kindles by a. sitting on it. b. dropping it on a rock. The third lasted about 6 yrs til it's battery went totally dead, and I'm on my third year with the Paperwhite 11th edition and kindle unlimited.

I switched to a Kobo 4 years ago. I like it much more than any Kindle. It has a touchscreen and buttons to turn the page. You could download Calibre to load your kindle books and convert them to pdf or epub. You can also link it to your library to borrow and return ebooks directly from the kobo.

(94,626 posts)I have about a bajillion books by now because Gutenberg is free. I use the same program in my iPad Books section for downloading and storing anything else that interests me, like certain government docs and newspaper or magazine articles of interest. Reading is easy when I have any difficulty with my vision I simply blow up the font size.
Im due to get a new iPad soon, and expect it to have the same facility or better.
