I sleep on the couch most of the time. About 40 minutes ago I was awakened by some noise. I got up, went in the kitchen and started looking. Finally I opened the door under the sink and the water is spraying all over. I manage to get one pipe kind of shut but that was it. Then I went outside and tried to shut the water to the house off, (I could do this years ago but I have lost strength.
No use. So I just stuck as many pots, pans and towels down and called the sheriff's office.
Growing old is not for sissies.
(Here is the scary part. I swear I saw a big mouse run out from under the sink when I opened it. I jumped. And I know that rat fink cat of mine brought in a baby mouse about 3 weeks ago and I could not find it to try and get it out - I even went so far as to get a humane mouse trap to try and catch it. I had it out for about a week. It was part of the big pile of cleaners etc under the sink that I had to pull out. It won't work unless you set it)

(22,997 posts)until it was completely gone and I had to stay in a hotel. And the electric company kept telling me it was on So I called these electricians and apparently I had a "downed wire" that was still stuck up a tree. Both they and me called the electric company and they came and cut the branches down and got electric to the house.
But then the AC stopped working! I had to pay $1,000 for a new motor.
And now this shit. Oh and I have to get a new dish washer because that went too.
These hurricanes are weird in the way they mess with houses

(2,622 posts)I had one of those apartment size washers and it had a drain tube made of rubber. One of my daughter's hamsters escaped it's cage, it turns out hamsters eat rubber and the next time I used the washer water was everywhere.

(32,061 posts)I had a cat bring a dead chipmunk in the house one morning before dawn, on my way to make coffee, opened the kitchen slider and didn't realize he had something in his mouth until after I got the coffee started and noticed a lump under the kitchen table.
My outdoor fountain pump had to be replaced recently. When the guy finally pulled the old one (had to take apart multi tier concrete bowls) the rubber had been eaten through to the wiring! And I've had to stop feeding birds in my yard because it had attracted both rats and mice. Trapped one of each, filled the feeders again, and damn rodents were right back.
I'm sorry you're dealing with such a mess.
