2. I've had several ferrets in my life

Once, I was sitting on the floor, and Socks went bouncing by, holding a plastic doohickey I didn't want him to have in his mouth. I took it from him, and he wanted it back so I showed it to him in my left and pretended to take it with my right. He followed my right while I put my left on my leg hiding the doohickey between my hand and leg. I opened my right and showed it empty. He looked at my right then my left. Right again and then went over to try and burrow between my hand and leg. I relented and showed him the doohickey. He looked at me again, almost proudly, then bounced away. "What a very human reaction," I thought. Then I thought, "I'm doing magic tricks for ferrets. What has my life become?"

And I actually do work as a magician sometimes.
