Help needed Midwestern friends!!!

I'm making a hot dish for tonight's debate and being a Jewish woman from Brooklyn NY, I've never cooked anything with cream soup and meat and frozen veggies.
Do you add cheese under the tater tots?
Any tips, suggestions welcome! Thanks! Go Coach Tim!!!!

(For the presidential debate, I got Jamaican take out- if there's another, I'll make Indian food.)

Put the cheese on top, bake, and then broil for a few mins, to brown the cheese. Think pizza

You can make your own tater tots too … video @ link … or buy them in the frozen food section.
You can buy shredded cheddar cheese too.
Top with some green onions when it is done.
Use ground round instead of ground beef.

Think of Jewish Latkes.

But I gotta tell you, the idea of brats and cream of celery soup scares me!

I was wrong.
My wife now makes homemade cream of mushroom soup for the base.
Un-effin' believable.

Sprinkle the cheese on top after the tots get browned.

Coach Tim is just like me, except he smiles.

Brown the meat with onions, garlic, salt & pepper. Drain.
Pour meat into the bottom of 9x13.
Pour mushroom soup over browned meat.
Layer on Tots.
Bake 375-400 until tots brown, add cheese, brown cheese.

For myself, I use hamburger fried with onions and add pepper. Then, I mix a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of cream of celery soup. I mix a can of corn and and a can of french style green beans (both drained). Place that in the bottom of the casserole dish, put a layer of sliced mild cheddar cheese over this, then top with the tater tots and cook until the tater tots are done. That is how I like it. I know people who vary the veggies they add, the cheese / type they use, etc.

Honestly, the only authentic 'hot dish' is the one you make that you like.

They were cheap and a bit like Hot Pockets but 1,000,000 times better. The pastry was light and flakey. They are only $1.29, so I don't expect super high quality. I had the jerk chicken. I need to buy more when I'm at the store.

I've never had Jamaican food before, so I don't know how to judge. But the pastry on that frozen turnover was excellent for $1.29
