part of the dumbing down of Murica

some folks just can't figure out what to do at an intersection where the traffic lights are out. My 1967 driver ed handbook said, "Driver on the right has first dibs to go thru intersection. Others should follow in the same way"

I did miss the section where it said, "Assholes with big trucks can do what the hell they want' or "If in doubt, call your sig other to ask"

what do you do?

I ignore the rules and wait for the a**hole to do their thing.

Otherwise I do like the driver ed handbook says.

Any uncontrolled intersection is to be treated as a 4 way stop. In some states it is the vehicle to your right goes first but in Montana, it's the vehicle on the left... go figure. I learned it in California, first time I ever encountered one and where I acquired my first driver's license and where I later was a CDL driving instructor.

The thing is, it should be recognized as a 4 way stop.

the unwritten rule was "whoever has the newest, fanciest car goes first". Since I was driving a ratty old minivan, there were lots of people who thought they should go ahead of me, regardless of who got to the intersection first.

Kids are grown now and I'm driving a ratty old Prius and I go when it's my turn!
