Had a nice chat with a woman today at the store.

Because of course I had to. She had a Great Dane service dog. Spent about 5 minutes chatting everything Great Dane. Differences between American and European Danes. Types we have had. Something about dogs can bring strangers together. Especially if you have the same type.

1. Great Danes are a special breed and so are the people that own them!

My family had Boston Terriers when I was young and that's pretty much the only breed I have direct experience with. When we lived in Miami in the 70's and 80's (before I hit the road trucking) there was a family near by that owned a couple Danes and I would often see them out walking. Enormous, happy, friendly ponies!! They would gladly stop their walk and let me pet their gorgeous dogs.

I do think it takes a special type of person to own the large breeds, the Irish Wolfhounds, St. Bernard's, Great Danes, Mastiffs, etc. I mean, they need their own furniture, for fucks sake!! LOL

There is a bunch of absolutely charming videos of the large breeds on YouTube and TikTok (well, there are funny vids of just about all dogs! ) and one I saw recently was a Dane on a bed with a young girl watching TV. The dog was enthralled with the show and must have gotten a bit scared, because he moved over closer to the little girl for comfort, whom he was twice the size of!

I love all dogs and I miss having one around. My avatar is a pic of my last one, the late, Great Mr. Beau Brummel - "BB" who has been gone from me 20 years this summer. I miss him every single day.

Here's a larger version of that same photo. I call it "The Elegant Tourist", as he was sitting in the passenger seat of the truck I was driving. He was such a handsome guy and just LOVED everyone. He didn't have a mean bone in his body.

Can you put up a pic of your Great Dane? I would love to see it.

He was so adorable that I couldn't resist, just had to ask about him and give him some pats! They were very friendly and it also turned out well for them since I was able to advise them on what nearby stores sold what they were shopping for.
