(107,571 posts)GEN-X and probably millennials want nothing to do with them. I have an incredibly expensive set that nieces and friends' kids have always expressed appreciation for but when I offered them to one or the other (not selling, giving! )--not interested. Now those starting out with small apartments and nowhere really to store them, I could probably understand, but that is not the case with all of them. Anything requiring hand-washing is a big "no" for several of them--and the others have expressed zero desire to ever cook, much less have people over for a less casual (not delivery) dinner. Nor do they entertain the THOUGHT that things might be different in the future.
Years ago, I was offered a lot of money for them. Now, I can't even give them away. sigh...

(19,443 posts)There is absolutely NO market for them. Nothing.

(1,429 posts)An auctioneer told me this. Before EBAY, any given thing was scarce in a given locality. My husband and his sister fought over a specific Dalton their mother cherished that was so rare. Now, there are about 15 listed on EBAY. Last I looked, many were listed in the $300 range, but the only on that sold, sold for about $7. After my husband died in 2016, I sold his old vinyl record collection for a pretty good price. Just a year later, record companies started producing new vinyl of old records with much better quality. I probably lucked out. Same with baseball cards after about 1970. Just know theyre worthless. So just declutter and dont leave that burden to your kids.

(3,205 posts)and now, we just have these boxes of china in our garage that take up space. Times have changed.
It's a shame. Seeing similar lack of interest in large furniture pieces. I just gave an antique armoire from Ethan Allen to charity because I couldn't sell it. Initially priced it at $1399. Over time, reduced it to $99. Gave it away for nothing. Very sad. I have a beautiful entertainment center that is probably going to go next. Hurts to think about how much we paid for that piece.

(19,443 posts)The set is in those HUGE Rubbermaid totes. and they are taking up a ton of room.
We also have a very nice Ethan Allen corner table/bookcase combo that is beautiful, but I know it would never sell.

(19,443 posts)We had tenants living upstairs in this huge house we owned and lived in as well.
There was this very old man who lived in one of the apartments.
He would come downstairs with BUCKETS full of change and try to give it to my mom. He didn't want it because the change was "dirty". My mother refused to take it, and they would have arguments because she told him to take it to the bank and cash it in.
Shortly before this guy died, he gave me a small picnic basket full of old stamps and cancelled envelopes. I held onto it for years.
When I finally decided to try to sell it, I couldn't find any buyers.

(19,443 posts)My wife went through a phase.
We have HUGE GARBAGE BAGS full of those things!
She paid $200 to QVC or something for the Princess Beanie baby.
Whenever we have an argument , I pull the invoice out to playfully remind her of that.
I have princess sitting in one of those protective plastic containers on top of one of my dressers.
Sometimes, I'll curtsy when I walk by it, just to wind my wife up.

(41,275 posts)but it was sold with a set with two others that I already had. I remember it was purple with a one rose on the heart. We saw it as an investment. and had these large leaf bags full of them. I took to a day care center and donated them when the bubble burst.
